Strand 7: Problem Solving RtI in Secondary Settings

Who Should Attend:

Building level administrators and staff, district staff including coaches and administrators, and others responsible for implementing RtI at the building level or supporting implementation at the district level.

Description:

Implementing RtI at the secondary level presents unique challenges and new questions. This strand will explore the application of RtI at the secondary level and collaboratively problem-solve with participants the implementation challenges inherent to middle and high school settings. Examples will illustrate the application of RtI practices to social and academic behaviors.

Note: This is not a beginner level session. The presenters will assume basic knowledge of RtI viewpoints and practices, including basic knowledge of using data in a problem-solving model. This session will focus on problem-solving secondary implementation challenges.

Prerequisites

Participants who register for this strand should have already had an overview of RtI and have a good understanding of the underlying practices and beliefs and have experience building consensus for innovation at the secondary level.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of training, participants will:

    1. Understand secondary RtI practices that increase student achievement
    2. Experience multiple school examples of using data based decision making processes and tools
    3. Have practiced useful skills for building consensus, infrastructure development, and implementation of RtI practices
    4. Gain fresh ideas and a renewed sense of determination to support implementation at the secondary level
